2013 – 2014
Fragments was created as part of the Pécsi József Photography Grant. Fragments is a combined work of 5 books, each contain the stories family photographs triggered to elderly femail storytellers. Between them they share the experience of 20th century Hungarian history. They also share an attribute, neither of them has descendants. Biro stepped into the role of grandchild, who listened their herstories. Through that gesture captured information, which otherwise – without transgenerational transmission – would have been lost.
Fragments exists both in exhibition format a well as there are limitied edition photobooks (2 copies in Hungarian and English)
Fragments won the Hungarian National Museum’s inaugural Rosti Pál Photbook award in 2020. Fragments can be found at the HNM’s collection.
